I gave up on the silverware basket and now I'm never going back
Three weeks ago I started laying forks and spoons flat on the top rack, pointed down and spaced out. Everyone online says the basket is fine, but I always got water pooling in the spoon bowls and food stuck in the tines. Flat layout fixed BOTH issues AND I fit about 20 more pieces per load. My wife called me crazy until she pulled out a spotless butter knife that used to come out cloudy every single time. Now the basket only holds the weird stuff like serving spoons and tongs. Has anyone else ditched the basket completely or am I the only lunatic here?

Oh man, I did the exact same thing like a year ago and people thought I was nuts. The flat layout is a game changer for real, especially for knives that always come out with that weird film on them. I keep a couple of those small mesh baskets for the tiny stuff like measuring spoons and bottle caps, but everything else goes flat now. Just make sure you angle the big spoons so water actually drips off the handle end, that was the one thing I had to tweak at first.
