Learned a salt trick from a barista at a gas station

I was grabbing a $1 coffee at a Shell station last month and the guy behind me saw me wince after the first sip. He pointed at the little salt packets and said 'just a pinch cuts the bitter,' so I tried it and man it actually works on cheap drip coffee. Anyone else use salt or am I late to this party?

Nah salt just masks bad beans instead of making actually good coffee.

And if you think about it @jade_hernandez, even good beans can come out bitter from a cheap machine or bad water, so salt is more of a quick fix for the whole situation not just the beans.
