I was dead set against washi tape on my desk stuff until last Tuesday
I always thought washi tape was just for scrapbookers and bullet journal people, not for functional desk stuff. But my IKEA pen holder was looking super boring so I grabbed a $3 roll with little gears on it from Hobby Lobby on a whim. Wrapped it around the holder in like 4 minutes flat and now my whole desk area actually has some personality without me having to paint anything. Anyone else stubbornly avoid a certain material then eat their words after trying it once?

My friend Rachel was the same way about stickers on laptops. She thought it looked messy and childish until she dropped her Macbook and got a ding in the corner that drove her crazy. She finally caved and covered the whole top with a $5 pack of cat stickers from Target and now she says it actually hides the damage better than a case would. Last time I saw her she was hunting for more stickers to fill the last little gap.

@blair_green86 that's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about. Did your friend Rachel ever peel the stickers off to check if the ding got worse or did she just commit fully to the sticker life? Because I'm already wondering if I'll be able to get the washi tape off without wrecking the IKEA finish whenever I get bored of the gears pattern. That plastic coating on their stuff can get weird with adhesives if you let it sit too long.

Oh man, that's such a good point about the IKEA finish. I mean, it's funny how we get so worried about making the "right" choice with stuff like stickers or tape, like it's this huge commitment. But honestly, I've been noticing this bigger pattern in my own life where we spend way more time stressing over the perfect fix than it would take to just deal with the actual problem later. Like, by the time you get bored of the gears pattern, you'll probably have other scratches anyway, so who cares if the tape leaves a little residue. It's kind of like how I'll put off painting a wall because I'm scared of choosing the wrong color, but then the room just looks ugly with the old paint for years.
