Overheard at the dog park that rope toys can shred teeth
I was at the off-leash area on Oak Street Monday morning and two vet techs were talking. One said she sees fractured puppy teeth from braided rope toys at least once a month. The fibers get caught between molars and dogs yank hard enough to crack enamel. I've been sewing fleece tuggers for my pointer but now I'm rethinking the whole design. Has anyone found a safe way to reinforce rope toys without making them too rigid?

Yeah I saw a post about this on a vet forum last week. Someone said the real danger is when the rope gets wet and then freezes, the fibers become like little blades. They recommended switching to rubber toys with reinforced core for heavy chewers. My golden retriever cracked a premolar on a knotted rope last year, cost me $800 for the extraction.

Swapped all my dogs rope toys for those rubber ones with the rope running through the middle. The rubber stops the fibers from getting all wedged between teeth and they still get to tug and thrash around.
