The dollar store squeaky ball hack for water bowl chaos

At Riverside Park last Tuesday, my lab kept flipping her bowl every time she grabbed her ball. I grabbed a cheap 2 pack of squeaky balls from the dollar store, drilled a hole in one and wedged it under the bowl edge. Now she bumps it, hears the squeak, and leaves the water alone. Anyone else gotta rig their setup for a water obsessed pup?

Tried something similar with my pup last summer, he's a golden who thinks his water dish is a swimming pool. I ended up taking a heavy ceramic bowl and putting it inside a cheap plastic tray with a lip, so even if he knocks it, the water stays contained. The squeaky ball trick is clever though, I might steal that for my shop dog who likes to paw at her bowl when she's bored. It's amazing how creative you gotta get just to keep a few liters of water on the floor. Did you drill the hole big enough for the ball to actually spin or does it just sit there?
