A homeowner in Bellingham told me something that changed how I tape seams
I was finishing a basement for this older guy, maybe six months ago, and he watched me mix my mud. He said, 'My dad used to say you should mix it like pancake batter, not like soup.' I mean, I always just added water until it felt right. But I tried his way, a bit thicker, and it held on the knife so much better. No more sag on those long ceiling seams. Anyone else have a simple trick like that for mud consistency?

Yeah, that pancake batter thing is real. I used to have the same problem with my mud sliding right off the knife on vertical corners. Started mixing it thicker, like soft peanut butter maybe, and it just stays put. Makes feathering out way easier too, you're not fighting a runny mess.

So what's the actual mix ratio you landed on for that thickness. Sounds like you found the sweet spot between workable and sticky. Always a battle with that first coat.
