Hot take: my aunt's 'secret' meatloaf recipe is actually pretty bland without my tweaks (sorry, Aunt Carol).
After a bad week where my family insisted I make it exactly as written (with 2 cups of plain breadcrumbs and no Worcestershire sauce), I finally proved my point by making my version side-by-side last Sunday, and even my dad admitted mine had more flavor. Anyone have a family recipe they had to secretly improve?

Ever try to fix up your grandma's famous chili? I added some chipotle powder once and she didn't speak to me for a week.

That "didn't speak to me for a week" part is so real, @olivia_webb. My buddy Mark tried to sneak some black beans into his nana's Texas-style chili, which is a huge no-no in her book. She found one bean in her bowl at the family dinner and just gave him this long, silent stare for the rest of the night. He said it was worse than any yelling.

That silent stare is brutal, way worse than yelling. What worked for me was bringing my own small pot to the next family dinner. I'd say something like "I made a little side batch with my weird bean thing so I don't mess up your perfect recipe." Lets you experiment without touching their sacred pot.
