Nobody talks about how long it takes to set up proper GPS tracking in field software...

Oh man, you hit the nail on the head. Getting the GPS coordinates to sync right with the field maps can eat up a whole afternoon sometimes. I've found that pre-loading the base maps at home on wi-fi saves me from tearing my hair out later.
