Wasted $40 on a 'universal' chain whip that snapped on the second use

Saw this cheap chain whip on Amazon with decent reviews and figured it'd save me a few bucks. First cassette swap went fine, but when I tried to break loose a tight lockring on my buddy's track hub, the handle just bent in half. The metal was super thin and the pin holding it together popped right out. Anyone else have luck with the Park Tool chain whip or should I just stick to making my own from an old chain?

Hate to be that guy but cheap tools are always a gamble, especially with something that takes that kind of torque. Park Tool stuff is solid, I've had their chain whip for a couple years now and it's still going strong even on some really stuck lockrings. Making your own from an old chain and a piece of bar stock is honestly just as good though, you can get old chains for free at most shops and the handle is way tougher. Just weld or bolt the chain on, saves you the $40 and you'll never worry about it snapping again.
