Overheard a bride-to-be say she wanted 'just a bunch of flowers, nothing fancy' for her wedding

I was picking up some buckets from a venue last Friday and heard a bride talking to her planner. She said she wanted 'just a bunch of flowers, nothing fancy' to save money. Her planner explained that a loose, garden-style arrangement actually takes more skill and product to look effortless, and often costs more than a structured centerpiece. It made me realize how often clients don't understand the work behind the look. How do you guys explain the value and labor in your designs without sounding defensive?

That's such a good point about the skill it takes to make things look simple! It reminds me of a hair stylist talking about a "messy bun" that actually takes a ton of pins and product. Maybe framing it as an art style helps, like saying a loose painting can be harder than a simple line drawing. You're paying for the artist's eye to make it look perfectly imperfect, not just for the stems themselves.

But what if the messy bun just looks messy? I've paid for that "perfectly imperfect" style before and got something that honestly just looked sloppy. Sometimes it feels like a way to charge more for less work, like they didn't try as hard.
