The hurdle of picking my first investments and what finally helped

I saved up some cash from my electrician work and knew I should invest it. But every option seemed either too risky or too slow. I got stuck for months, just letting it sit in a savings account. Then I found a podcast that broke down index funds in plain language. I decided to start with a total stock market fund and set up automatic buys. Now, I add a bit each month and don't stress over daily changes. It's not rocket science, but it took me a while to get here. For other beginners, what was the biggest thing holding you back from starting?

Heard many beginners get stuck trying to pick the perfect stock. Your point about index funds cutting through that paralysis by analysis really hits home.

Man, my buddy did that with cameras last year. Spent three months comparing every spec, reading reviews, watching videos. He finally bought one and then just left it on auto mode forever. Same energy with stocks, just way more money on the line. Index funds basically put that whole exhausting debate on mute.

Watched every review for a blender last year! Now it just sits on the counter reminding me of my wasted time.
