My mom caught me mid-guided meditation in the bathroom during Thanksgiving dinner
I was at Thanksgiving dinner with my extended family and the noise was just too much, so I felt really stressed. I slipped away to the bathroom to try a quick meditation guide from my phone. The guide was telling me to focus on my breath and let go of tension. Right as I was getting into it, my mom barged in because she needed something from the cabinet. She saw me sitting on the floor with my eyes closed and headphones on, and got worried I was sick. I had to explain that I was just meditating to calm down, but she gave me this weird look and told everyone at the table. Now my whole family thinks I'm avoiding them by hiding in the bathroom. Has anyone else had a meditation session interrupted in a really embarrassing way?

That "weird look" your mom gave you is so familiar. My friend tried doing yoga in a quiet conference room at work and his boss walked in for an impromptu meeting. He had to just grab his mat and sit there silently through the whole thing, which was way more awkward than just being found.

Stuff like that happens more often now with open offices. People try to sneak in a quick break and get caught in the middle. It makes those private moments feel risky instead of relaxing.

The "hiding in the bathroom" story is so common. I read that bathroom meditation is a legit stress hack during family stuff.
