Finally got my 'Distracted Boyfriend' remix to actually land after 12 tries

I kept trying to redo that template with jokes about my cat choosing the neighbor's porch over ours, but nobody got it. Then I swapped the boyfriend for a delivery driver and the girlfriend for my laptop (which I keep ordering stuff from). Last week I posted it and got 40 upvotes in an hour (which is huge for me). Has anyone else struggled with a format you just couldn't get right until you changed one weird detail?

Stick with that same formula but try swapping the setting instead of the characters. Your delivery driver and laptop joke works because it's relatable, just needs a fresh background to hit harder. A laundromat or waiting room could give it that extra punch without messing with what already works.

Actually the laundromat angle is interesting but I think you're missing the real opportunity here lol. If you swap the setting to something like a DMV office or a hospital waiting room, you can play with the audience's shared frustration more effectively. People hate being on hold or waiting for paperwork more than they hate doing laundry. The delivery driver joke works because everyone gets that specific kind of impatience, but if you set it in a place where time moves slower, the punchline just lands harder. I tried this with a bit about a guy trying to use his laptop at the social security office once and it killed because everybody there was already annoyed. Just a thought.
