TIL that prop from The Dark Knight I bought is a recast, not the real deal
Spent $400 on what the seller claimed was a screen-used Joker card from the bank heist scene. Got it home and under a UV light the serial number font was wrong, learned recasts are flooding the market for Batman props. Any reliable way to vet sellers before I drop cash on another?

Used to trust UV lights for authentication but now I get why you'd want better vetting.

UV lights aren't really used for authentication anymore, they were more of a quick visual check people did with IDs and currency back in the day. Modern UV security features actually have pretty specific patterns and hidden marks that need special training to verify, not just a blacklight. The real issue is that counterfeiters got good at copying the simple UV strip responses, so relying on that alone became worthless. Vetting processes these days look at multiple layers of security, like holograms, microprinting, and even digital verification systems built into the document itself. You're right to want better vetting, but UV lights were never a solid foundation to begin with.
