Just realized my brother was right about old Final Fantasy games

My little brother, who's 22 now, told me last Sunday that Final Fantasy 7's story actually makes more sense than the remake's pacing. I brushed him off but then I replayed the original last night and dude was spot on. Why do we get so defensive about our nostalgic memories changing?

OH MAN this hits way too close to home! I had the SAME thing happen with Final Fantasy 6 last month when my cousin said the original's world of ruin pacing was better than the pixel remaster's tweaks. We get so attached to how we REMEMBER things feeling that when someone points out a flaw it feels like they're attacking our memories. Now I just nod and say "yeah you might have a point" even if it stings a little.

Whoa, I gotta push back on this one a little. My experience has been totally opposite. I played FF7 original back in 97 and I still think the remake's pacing is better because it gives you time to breathe with the characters. The original Shinra building section felt rushed to me even as a kid, like they just wanted to get you to the next big plot point without letting you soak it in. Nostalgia isn't always wrong, sometimes our memories are actually right about what made those old games special.
