Wasted $30 on clear coat spray that ruined my can art

I spent about three weekends cutting and shaping this big Coca-Cola can eagle for my wall. Looked great flat, but I wanted it shiny so I bought a can of clear acrylic gloss from the hardware store. Sprayed it on and within an hour the paint started bubbling and peeling off the metal. Now the whole thing is blotchy and I can't fix it. Anyone else had this happen with a specific brand or type of sealant?

Congrats, you just turned a three weekend project into a modern art piece called "Why I Don't Trust Hardware Store Clear Coat." Next time try an art supply spray meant for metal, not deck sealer that's basically paint thinner in a can. You learned the expensive way that shiny and cheap usually end up looking blotchy.

Did you strip it first or just go right over the old finish?
