cheap foam panels vs. moving blankets for echo in my bedroom studio

I tried both a $40 pack of foam panels from Amazon and a $20 moving blanket from Harbor Freight to kill the echo in my 10x12 room. The foam barely did anything for the low end, but the blanket hung on a mic stand actually stopped the slapback on my vocals. Has anyone else found a budget trick that worked better than the obvious gear?

My vocal booth is currently held together by a blanket and shame, but hey, the slapback is gone! Maybe we're all just one trip to Goodwill away from perfect acoustics.

Tried a heavy comforter draped over two mic stands once. Worked better than the foam. Looked like a sad fort though.
