My solar charger held up through a week of emails from the trail.

Seriously, one week with emails doesn't prove anything. Solar chargers fail all the time in bad weather or low light. Camping gear is for short trips, not keeping up with work demands. You're setting yourself up for a letdown when you really need power. It's a nice story but not a reliable plan.

The absurd method we used to find leaks before pressure gauges were common

Sounds like Dan’s method found every leak except the one in his common sense. That garage floor ice rink probably did more water damage than a slow leak could manage in a year. At least the packing foam bubbles gave it a festive, disastrous touch.

Am I the only one whose friends give unsafe car advice?

Wait, the filter actually blew out? That's terrifying. I've seen cheap ones fail slowly and leak, but a full blowout could dump all your oil in seconds. Your engine would be toast before the oil light even came on. Saving five bucks isn't worth a four thousand dollar repair. Some advice is just dangerous.

Joe's Cafe line sketch turned into a speed drawing session

Does forcing speed change how you see things? It totally locks you into the big shapes first. That's actually a solid way to train your eye.

I finally said no to a cheap fix on a foundation job, and lost the contract

I read about a warehouse roof that caved in a couple years back because they used corroded rebar. The investigation found the rust had eaten away more than half the steel's strength. Your boss is playing with fire, saving pennies now but risking lives later. It's not just about the money, it's about people living in that house. Standing your ground was the right call, even if it cost you the job. Sometimes doing the right thing means walking away.
