TIL the hard way that using a 4-inch auger instead of a 6-inch one for a 20-post cedar fence in wet clay soil saves about 3 hours of backfilling and mixing gravel.

Smart move. That's the kind of field hack that saves a day. The gravel mixing is the real time killer, so skipping it when the client wants speed makes total sense. A full bag of concrete in wet clay is basically a perfect plug.

My uncle told me to never use a knee kicker on berber carpet and I thought he was nuts

Man, that's a tough lesson to learn the hard way. Some carpets are just too fragile for a kicker, no matter how careful you are. Your uncle saved you a lot of future headaches.

My sourdough starter went from sad to spectacular after I moved it to a different spot in my kitchen

Wait, is that why my starter sometimes just gives up? @the_michael I had this old fridge and my sourdough would never rise right on that side of the kitchen. Moved it away from the vent and it was like a different culture. Cold air just kills the activity, you can see it get sluggish. Makes total sense when you think about it, they want a steady warm spot. My last one would get a weird skin on top if it was in a draft.

Why I now love my e-reader after a month of sync issues

I read a Wired article that mentioned 30% of e-reader users report sync glitches. It made me laugh because my old Kindle used to lose my place all the time. Now I just download a bunch of books before a trip and don't worry about Wi-Fi. That forced offline mode actually lets me focus better without notifications popping up. So your month of hassle sounds familiar, but hey, at least you found the silver lining.
