inAm I the only one who sees people mixing chemical peels wrong?
Remember that time a few years back when the whole "mixing your own vitamin C serum" trend blew up? I saw a friend try it with some powder and a random oil, and it turned her face orange for a day. It's the same kind of kitchen chemistry that makes me side-eye these custom acid blends.

inSaw a balcony in Portland using old rain gutters for lettuce, but I'm worried about plastic leaching.
Hot take: Probably fine, but why risk it? That Portland gutter garden is a cool idea, honestly. The main worry with old plastic is stuff like BPA or phthalates, which can get into soil and water. If the gutters are really weathered and cracked, that risk goes up. For leafy greens that don't touch the plastic much, it's less of a big deal than for, say, tomatoes. But you can find cheap food grade buckets or use untreated wood and just skip the worry.

inHot take: I think a lot of us are too quick to dismiss old-school hot rollers
Nah, gotta disagree on this one. Hot rollers are a total pain to store and they take forever to heat up. My curling wand is ready in like 30 seconds and I can control every single curl. That "softer" look from rollers just reads as messy to me after a couple hours. Modern tools are popular for a reason, they're faster and way easier to use without burning your fingers.

inThat time a spoon saved me from replacing a whole dishwasher motor
You call that a good fix? It just shows how lazy people are with basic checks. Why is the first thought always to replace the whole motor instead of looking for an obvious blockage? That spoon didn't hide itself. Most of these "easy wins" are just fixing someone else's lack of effort, and it wastes everyone's time.

inMy apprentice asked why we still use hemp rope for some governor tensioners and the old foreman had a story about a 1972 Otis in Philly.
Old school tricks still have their place, huh.
