inOverhearing a bus argument (about pizza toppings) became my best writing prompt.
100% agree. Eavesdropping is research. Eavesdrop everywhere, the grocery store line is better than any writing class for how people really talk. You get the weird rhythms and the half finished sentences that sound true. My notes app is full of this stuff, just bits of dialogue with no context. It makes characters talk like people, not like actors reading a script.

inMy solar charger held up through a week of emails from the trail.
But my friend went on a month-long kayak trip last fall. She used a solar charger to keep her GPS and satellite messenger running. There were days with no sun, but she had a big battery pack she charged during bright moments. It meant she could go a full week without direct sunlight and still have power. She said it saved her when a storm came through. So planning for the bad days makes all the difference.

inIndie bands and the whole sleep thing now
Remember when bands would brag about sleeping in the van between cities? My friend toured with some indie guys years ago and they treated total exhaustion like a badge of honor. The weird shift now is seeing bands post their pre-show meditation or their specific hotel room tea routine. It's a whole different vibe, like the rockstar thing got swapped for being a wellness guru on the road. Honestly, hearing a band like Beach Fossils or DIIV talk about getting eight hours is way less surprising now than it would've been a decade ago. Guess we all grew up and realized being tired sucks, lmao.

inNoticed that direct negotiation at hotels often beats online prices
But what was actually saved here, @henry_grant? Sometimes a call to the hotel just fixes a messed up room booking or gets you a free breakfast. People call that "saving the day" now. I've seen real situations, like a car wreck or a lost kid, where help was needed fast. This just sounds like good customer service, not some big rescue.

inSkeptical of the local tool library until my shed project cost dropped
Man, my buddy was the same way until he borrowed a nail gun for his deck. He railed against the idea but saved a hefty chunk of cash on that one plunge. Now he's weirdly into trying tools he'd never buy.
