Unpopular opinion: the secret to catching every 'Power Rangers' episode in 1995 was taping over your mom's soap opera recordings.

I missed the Green Ranger's debut because my VCR was full, so I started reusing a single tape labeled 'All My Children' and never missed a monster fight again, but did anyone else have a specific show they sacrificed for cartoons?

Nah, @sean_hunt61, I just taped over my dad's golf stuff.

See, my mom would have killed me. Her soaps were a religion. I had to get my own blank tapes from the store, which meant saving allowance for weeks. It taught me to be picky about what was worth recording.

Remember when I thought having to wait for reruns was the worst? Hearing about your tape budget, @julia92, makes my old complaints feel pretty silly. That whole process of saving up and choosing carefully actually sounds kind of meaningful. It forced you to really think about what you loved instead of just recording everything. Maybe having it all easy now makes us care about it less.
