TIL a bus driver told me his trick for falling asleep fast at a rest stop
I was on the 4:15 route last Tuesday and got talking to this driver named Ray who does long runs up to Albany. He said he used to lie there at rest stops staring at the ceiling, so now he sets a timer for 22 minutes and just tells himself he is only resting his eyes, not sleeping. He swears it works because his brain stops trying so hard, and most of the time he is out cold in about 8 minutes. I tried it on my own couch on Sunday with my phone face down and a kitchen timer, and I actually nodded off before it went off. The odd number bugs me a little though, and I keep wondering if the timer noise would jolt me awake. Also he said he never lies flat, he props up on his jacket so he does not sink too deep. Curious if anyone here has tried a weirdly specific number like that and if it stuck.
