Why does nobody talk about how nap time got stolen from us after 2nd grade?
I was standing in line at the post office in Boise last Tuesday and the lady behind me said her 7 year old gets maybe 20 minutes of quiet time at school, if that. It got me thinking about how we all had a full hour set aside every day when we were little, those little cots or just a towel on the floor, and somewhere around age 8 it just vanished from our lives. My kid's teacher told me at conferences in March that they cut rest time to squeeze in more reading blocks, and I get it, but man. Here I am at 44 running my own crew and I would trade my lunch break for a real 30 minute nap any day. I used to fight that mat like it was jail, now I would pay good money for it. So my question is, did any of you get to keep some kind of rest period past elementary school, or did it just get taken from all of us at the same time?
