Lost my whole weekly spread when my pen leaked during a meeting at the library

Oh man, absolutely. @gibson.oliver you nailed it - the bleed-through is way worse than the smear itself. I had a cheap blue pen do that once and it ruined three whole days of my monthly log before I caught it. Now I keep a little test pad in the back of my journal and I try every pen on that before it ever touches a real page. It feels a bit silly but it saves so much frustration.

My neighbor swore by canola oil for quenching blades

Man, I feel you @bethcarr. That "greasy potato smell" line hit me hard because I made the same mistake when I was younger and trying to save a few bucks. I remember thinking, "oil is oil, right?" Nope. The smell stayed on my jeans and hands for days no matter how much I washed them, and every time I walked into my apartment it was like I just clocked out of a fast food shift. It took me way too long to realize you can't just grab something from the kitchen pantry and expect it to work on moving parts. Did you ever get the smell completely out of your garage, or is it just part of the place now?

My DIY water filter finally gave up after 8 months

8 months seems like a pretty good run for a DIY bucket filter though.

That corner job at the old St. Mary's church near downtown went sideways fast

Is three courses really enough to call it a full screw up?

Showerthought: People keep using "ask me anything" threads like a search engine instead of a conversation

Hang on, someone actually just posted a YouTube link as the top reply to a "how to learn guitar" question? That feels like the equivalent of handing someone a phone book when they ask for directions. I've been playing for twenty years and the best advice I ever got was from an old blues guy who just said "play until your fingers bleed, then play some more." Those personal stories and weird tips are exactly why you ask a real person instead of Googling it.
