Heard a guy at the supply house say AI writes his bid letters now and it got me thinking
So I'm standing in line at the paint supply house in Sacramento last Thursday and this guy two spots ahead of me is telling the counter kid that he feeds his job notes into some AI tool and it spits out his bid letters to homeowners. He said it saves him about 3 hours a week, which for a two man crew is real money. My first thought was that the letters must sound like a robot wrote them, but he pulled one up on his phone and honestly it read fine, just plain and clear. Now I'm wondering if I'm leaving hours on the table every week typing up estimates and follow up emails after the crew goes home. I tried one of those free chat tools once for a scope of work and it made up a whole room that wasn't in the house, so I gave up pretty fast. The thing that bugs me is how do you keep it from promising stuff you didn't agree to, like a finish coat timeline you can't hit. Curious if anyone here uses AI for the boring paperwork side of a trade business and how you keep it honest.
