My old recipe notebook finally got retired for a kitchen tablet
I kept a 3-ring binder with 200+ handwritten recipes and 14 tabs, but last month the pages kept sticking together from flour dust. I moved everything into a cheap tablet fixed to the fridge that lets me ask the AI to scale a batch for 12 people instead of 6. Has anyone else stopped trusting their own memory and switched to a digital helper mid-cook?
Funny how we all ended up outsourcing our memory to machines... I notice it everywhere now, not just cooking. People don't remember phone numbers, directions, or even their own kids' schedules without asking the phone. The old notebook had its own problems though, flour dust sticking pages together is a real pain, and scaling recipes in your head always ends with me guessing wrong and ruining a batch of pancakes. Digital helpers are just the next step in the same pattern we've been on for years, letting the tool hold the details so our brains can focus on the actual doing. My worry is what happens when the wifi drops or the tablet dies mid-cook and you're standing there with no clue what comes next... that's when the old memory really mattered. But I guess that's progress for you, convenience until it isn't.
