That time my mother in law ruined my brand new air fryer

She came over last weekend, saw my Cosori 5.8 quart sitting on the counter, and decided to cook frozen chicken tenders at 450 degrees for 20 minutes without checking anything. Walked into the kitchen and smoke was pouring out, the basket was scorched, and the nonstick coating started peeling. Who does that without even asking the person who owns the thing? Has anyone else had a guest mess up their air fryer like that?

Read somewhere that air fryers need a lot less time than ovens for frozen stuff.

Is it just me or do some people treat other peoples kitchens like they’re running a diner with zero training? I’ve seen this same thing happen with rice cookers, instant pots, and even a buddy’s fancy espresso machine. People walk in, see a gadget they don’t own, and suddenly they’re fearless about pushing every button. It’s like there’s a weird confidence that comes with not having to clean up the mess or pay to replace it. Your mother in law probably thought she was being helpful, but helpful means asking first, not assuming you know how to run someone else’s stuff. Sorry about the air fryer, man. That plastic coating peeling is basically a death sentence for that thing.
