A lead mechanic in Tulsa handed me his 30-cent safety wire trick and I've used it every job since
Three weeks ago I was doing a gear door rig on a King Air at a shop near Tulsa and kept fighting the safety wire on a tight run where my pliers would not fit. The lead there, guy named Ray with 22 years in, grabbed two inches of rubber tubing off a scrap hose and slid it over the twisted tail so it wouldn't bite my palm while I finished the pigtail. I had been mangling my hands on that exact job for eight years. Now I keep a foot of tubing in my box and it saves me a cut every single week. Does anyone else have a small trick like that, or am I the last guy to hear about it?

Sounded like overkill to me until I tried it, now the tubing stays in my box.
