A chat with a fire marshal changed how I wire smokes
Last Tuesday I was pulling smoke detectors in a new build and the fire marshal came by for a walkthrough. He asked if I ever tested voltage drop on the notification circuits after the wires were in the walls, and I honestly said no. He told me he's seen three installs this year where the panel showed all good but horns barely chirped once the battery backup kicked in. That got me thinking about my last 12 jobs, so now I'm checking every run with a multimeter before I close up drywall. Has anyone else had a fire marshal flag something they'd never considered on a routine inspection?
