That client who asked for 'just a trim' still haunts me

The tape measure thing is wild because we literally bring out the tools now to prove it and they still argue. My coworker at the shop had a lady come in with a screenshot of a ruler on her phone once and held it up to her hair and said "see this is where it was" and we all just stood there trying not to laugh. It makes me wonder if some of these people genuinely can't see the difference because their idea of what an inch looks like is totally warped from staring at their own hair so long. Or maybe they're just embarrassed they said the wrong thing and double down instead of admitting it. I had one client who cried, then came back three weeks later and apologized because her husband measured it at home and proved it was exactly one inch. But most of them never come back to say sorry, they just find a new salon and start the cycle over with someone else.

Hot take: I always thought tack strips were just for holding the carpet down

Mia's right about airflow but gym equipment and carpet tack strips aren't really the same thing - tack strips need that gap specifically for the carpet to hook onto the pins properly, not just for breathing. Different rules for different materials.

That magnetic sweeper tool I laughed at? Saved me 3 hours on a job yesterday

Bought one after losing a wedding ring in the yard and now I use it for everything.

That three day stretch in Austin where nothing went right

My buddy Mark had a week like that last fall. His dog got sprayed by a skunk at 6am Monday, then he accidentally threw his phone in the trash with the rest of the takeout containers. Tuesday his tire blew out on the highway and he had to change it in the rain with no jacket. By Wednesday his girlfriend's car broke down outside his place, then she blamed him for it somehow. He swears the universe sends these weeks out like some kind of cosmic punishment package deal.

Talked to a 70 year old guy at the dump about refinishing and it hit me

Lean into the grain so it doesn't blow out on you. Works every time.
