inUpdate: That time I messed up a gate latch in the rain
Last March in Bellingham I had the exact same thing happen with a driveway gate. The rain was coming down sideways and I was so focused on getting done that I pre-drilled all my holes before checking the swing. The gate sagged just enough to bind on the post. I ended up using a tiny dab of toothpaste on the latch plate to mark the spot, wiped it off after, and it saved me a second trip in the weather. Now I keep a dry rag and a pencil in a ziplock bag in my tool belt for wet days.

Yeah, the power cost was my worry too. I just run the model on an old laptop and only fire it up when I need to batch process stuff.

inWasted $75 on a 'universal' boiler gasket kit that fit nothing on my old Cleaver-Brooks
Universal kits are a lifesaver for keeping old machines running. They bundle common sizes together so you don't have to hunt down ten different part numbers. My shop uses them on vintage units all the time, you just need to know which pieces to toss. That $75 kit probably had a couple seals that would have worked with a little trimming.

inI tried to explain the plot of Neon Genesis Evangelion to my mom over dinner last night
What did you even say to start that talk? I always get stuck on how to explain it without sounding like I've lost touch.

inTried a new way to keep hydrangeas from wilting in the van last week
Nah, I gotta disagree with you @sarahhart. A long drive just makes me feel stiff and tired, not actually sore from a workout. It's a totally different kind of ache.
