Spent $60 on a cheap wire tracer, total waste
Picked up a bargain wire tracer off Amazon to chase down a short in a commercial job near Phoenix. It kept picking up noise from every other cable in the wall, so I spent 3 hours guessing and finally pulled out my old toner. That cheap unit is now in the junk drawer. Anyone else had luck with a budget tracer or do you stick with the name brands?

That cheap unit is now in the junk drawer" is pretty much where all my budget tools end up eventually. It's the same pattern with cheap flashlights, cheap drill bits, even cheap phone chargers. You save a few bucks upfront, then lose way more time fighting the thing that was supposed to save you time. I've noticed it with cooking stuff too, a $10 thermometer that reads 50 degrees off ruins a whole brisket, not just the $10. The only budget stuff that ever works out for me is the stuff where being basic is fine, like a simple hammer or a screwdriver. But anything electronic or with moving parts? You're just renting a headache until you buy the real one.
