The siding job that forced me to rethink wireless sensors
Last week I was on a retrofit in Denver and the homeowner had just put up new metal siding. I figured my wireless sensors would punch through fine, but three of them went into trouble mode within an hour of mounting. Turns out the siding was acting like a shield, and the range tests I did before the install looked great because I was holding the sensors away from the wall. I had to run wired contacts on those windows instead, which added about 2 hours to the job and cost me an extra $40 in wire and terminals. Now I always do a quick test with the sensor placed flush against the actual wall surface before I commit to wireless. Has anyone else run into this with metal panels or foil-backed insulation? I'd like to know what you do for a fast pre-check without pulling out all the tools.
