New window quote came in at $18k, is triple pane actually worth it in Calgary?
I had a salesman from a big window company over last Thursday, and he pushed triple pane hard, saying it cuts heating bills by 30 percent. But my neighbor swears his double pane place is fine and that the upgrade cost never pays off, especially with our chinooks wrecking seals. The quote breakdown showed the triple pane version was $18k versus $12k for double, and the payback math seems like it takes 20 years if you're lucky. I'm leaning toward just replacing the front two windows and keeping double elsewhere, but has anyone else compared real bills before and after switching in this climate? What did your numbers actually show?
