Shoutout to the guy at the Juan Tabo hardware store who told me to check my swamp cooler pad in June
So last June I was up on the roof trying to fix my swamp cooler before a party, and I was about to swap out the whole motor when a guy in the aisle mentioned I should just look at the pad first. Turned out the pad was so caked with mineral junk from our hard water that the thing was choking, and a $14 pad fixed what I thought was a $200 motor problem. Now here is the debate: my neighbor says you should swap pads twice a season here, but my brother in law swears one good pad in May is plenty. I am curious what the rest of you do with our water, because I am wondering if I got lucky or if he saved me from throwing money away.
