Warning: paid $850 for the cheap swamp cooler install and regretted it by July
Last spring our old cooler finally died and I had two quotes sitting on the table. One guy in Rio Rancho wanted $1,400 to fix the pad frame, run new lines, and bump up the pump, the other guy said $850 and he'd just swap the unit and reuse everything. I went cheap because who has an extra $550 lying around, and by the first week of July the thing was barely cooling the house past 82. Turned out the old lines were too small for the new unit and the pad frame was warped so half the air just blew past the pads. Spent the $550 I saved plus another $200 getting it redone right in August, hottest possible time to be without cool air. Anybody else get burned going with the low bid on a cooler, or is it just me?
