Spent $400 on a fancy LED mask and it's just a bright paperweight

I bought this high end LED mask six months ago after seeing all the hype online. It was supposed to help with client acne and anti aging treatments. I used it on myself for a full month, following the schedule exactly, and saw zero change in my skin. Now it just sits in my cabinet because I can't in good faith charge a client for a treatment that did nothing for me. Has anyone actually gotten real results from these, or are they all just a waste of money?

A client told me my layers were 'too perfect' and looked like a helmet, which honestly stung a bit.

I started cutting them with more varied textures and leaving some pieces longer, and now her hair moves way better. Do you guys ever get feedback that makes you change your whole approach to a cut?

Shoutout to the old guy at the lumberyard who told me to wet my cedar fence boards

He saw me loading up for a job in Phoenix and said to hose them down before I started. I thought he was nuts, but it was 105 degrees. Did it anyway. Boards went on smooth, no splits at all. Saved me a ton of time and waste. Anyone else have a weird tip that actually worked?

Just found out my old way of checking for cracks could have cost me big

For years, I just used a basic flashlight and looked up the flue from the fireplace. I thought if I didn't see a big gap, we were good. That changed last fall after a job in Tacoma. The homeowner called back a month later saying they had smoke in a bedroom wall. Turned out there was a hairline crack in the clay liner, way up near the top, that my old light just didn't catch. I had to eat the cost of the full repair, about $1200, to make it right. Now I won't do an inspection without my rotary camera system. It cost me a lot upfront, but seeing that full 360 view is a game changer. I spot issues I would have missed 100% before. What's your go-to method for a solid liner check, especially in older brick chimneys?

Remember when digital art was just a hobby for most of us?

I was at a small con in Austin maybe 8 years ago. Just browsing the artist alley. Saw this older guy with a tablet, showing his kid how to do a simple line sketch. I stopped to watch. He looked up and said, 'Back in my day, we had to scan pencil drawings. Took forever. Now he can just undo a mistake.' That stuck with me. It was a tiny moment, but it hit home. The tools got easier, but the art is still the point. His kid was just having fun. Makes me think about how we focus on gear now. Anyone else have a moment like that, where the tech just faded into the background?

Thought those giant puffer coats were just a weird Tokyo street style thing

Saw them everywhere in Harajuku last year and thought it was a joke, but my buddy got one for a trip to Montreal and said it saved him in -20 weather. The fill power is insane, like 800+ on some models, and they actually pack down pretty small. Anyone else tried one of these for real winter or is the bulk still too much?

The day I found a full set of dentures under an old carpet pad

Pulling up this nasty shag in a 1970s house in Tempe, and my pry bar hits something hard. Thought it was a nail plate, but nope. It was someone's top and bottom teeth, just sitting there grinning up at me. The homeowner had no idea whose they were. Spent the rest of the afternoon joking that the floor must have really knocked someone's socks off. Ever find anything truly weird under an old floor?

Switching to a high-protein lunch fixed my afternoon energy crashes in the shop

I used to eat a big carb-heavy meal and would feel sluggish by 2 PM. Started packing grilled chicken and veggies instead. Now I can power through transmissions without hitting a wall. My productivity shot up, and I'm less tempted by junk from the vending machine.
