Water heater let go at 2am on Menaul and I barely caught it
Woke up to a weird hissing sound around 2am last Tuesday and found water pooling fast in the garage by my water heater. The thing was 14 years old and the bottom had rusted through, so I killed the gas and shut the supply valve, then called a plumber who got here by 6am. He said the pan I had was too shallow and the drain line was clogged with dust, which is why it spread toward my wife's stored boxes. Has anyone here had good luck with those automatic shutoff valves, or is it easier to just replace the unit every 10 years?
