Question about the 400 speed film stat I saw at my local lab in Boise

Found out last month that this lab in Boise develops more 400 speed color film than 200 and 100 combined, which blew my mind since I always grabbed 100 for daylight. So is 400 the new default and I should stop babying my meter, or do you all still keep a slow roll in the bag for sunny stuff? Curious how everyone splits their film stock by speed.

Jumped on the 400 bandwagon a couple years ago and never looked back. My lab guy told me the same thing, that 400 outsells everything else by a mile, and it makes sense once you think about it. The newer emulsions handle light so well now that the old gap between speeds is mostly gone, and being able to shoot indoors or on a cloudy day without swapping rolls is a huge plus. I still keep a roll of 100 in the bag for really bright beach days when I want to shoot wide open, but that's maybe one roll for every ten of the 400. Honestly the whole "save the slow film for sunshine" rule feels like it comes from an older era of film.
