Vent: The door switch safety test that saved me a lawsuit in Boise

Took a dry call last Tuesday, lady said her washer wouldnt spin at all. Checked the usual stuff, belt, motor, all looked fine. Then I noticed the door switch had a hairline crack in the plastic housing, it was still clicking but the contacts were barely touching. I ran the continuity test with the door closed and it passed, but I decided to shake the wire harness a bit and it dropped out. That little 2 minute test caught a short that wouldve let the machine run with the door open. If a kid had reached in there, that's on me. How many of you actually do the interrupted spin test on every washer call, or do you just trust the click? I've been burned once before by assuming the switch was good, and Im not doing that again.

The door closed and it passed" got me. That shake test is the whole ballgame. I do a version of it on every unit now, wiggle the harness AND the switch body itself. It's annoying and adds a minute, but it beats explaining to a parent why their kid got hurt. Cheap insurance for a couple of bucks in parts.
