Actually that tiny pocket was originally for pocket watches. It's called a watch pocket. People just found a new use for it after wristwatches became common. So it wasn't designed for keys, but it works great for them now. Funny how that happens with old designs. They find a new purpose.

That "single, complete story" thing is the key. Modern life is all fractured attention, so a finished tale you can hold in your hands feels like a real event. It's the opposite of another endless phone scroll.
