Warning: took forever to figure out why my dryer was squeaking

I was in my basement last Tuesday getting ready to fix a customer's dryer and thought it was the belt again. After pulling it apart for the third time I realized the idler pulley was off by like a millimeter and rubbing the frame. It only took me 45 minutes of staring to see it but once I lubed that spot and realigned it the noise stopped instantly. Anyone else waste half a day on a tiny part that's not even broken?

Ugh that sucks, been there way too many times with stupid little stuff like that.

actually I kinda disagree with that framing. yeah small stuff is annoying but most times it's those tiny fixes that end up teaching me something about how the thing works. last month my dryer kept shutting off mid cycle and it turned out to be a cheap thermal fuse, cost me like 8 bucks and an afternoon. that little headache saved me from calling a repair guy who would've charged 150 for the same thing. maybe it's just me but those "stupid little" problems have bailed me out more times than they've wasted my time.
