Dropped $340 on a Stein Arbor Trolley, and I still can't decide if it was smart or dumb
I picked one up back in March because hauling brush out of tight backyards in Roanoke was wrecking my lower back. First job I used it on, a big white oak removal, it moved maybe 200 pounds of limbs per trip and saved my crew a solid hour of dragging. But then it got stuck in soft ground next to a creek and two guys had to yank it out while I stood there feeling like an idiot. For $340 I could have bought a lot of other gear, so I'm honestly torn. Anybody else own one and actually use it enough to justify the price?
200 pounds per trip on a big white oak honestly sounds low for that price tag. I've watched guys run an Arbor Trolley and they were stacking way more than that once they figured out the balance point, so maybe you're not loading it right or the ground was fighting you. The soft dirt by the creek is a real problem though, and $340 is a lot to spend on something that needs two guys to rescue. For that money I'd rather put it toward a decent hand truck and a couple of good chains, or just pay a kid to drag brush for a day. If it's saving you an hour a job and your back is still attached, fine, but I don't see it paying for itself unless you're doing tight removals every week.
