Noticed a big difference in pruning cuts after switching to a hand saw over a pole saw

I used to use my pole saw for everything up high, but after I started climbing and using a Silky Zubat for those same cuts, the bark healed way cleaner within just two months. Has anyone else seen faster callusing with a specific saw?

Have you tried a pruning knife for the final cleanup pass? I found that after switching from a pole saw to a handsaw (the Silky Bigboy for me), the callusing was way faster but it improved even more when I started cleaning up the cut edge with a sharp knife. That little step really helped the bark roll in smooth and tight. Just something to think about if you're already seeing good results with the Zubat.

Three years ago I would've rolled my eyes at someone taking a knife to a pruning cut. Actually tried it on a big maple limb last month and yeah, the bark rolled over way cleaner than any of my saw cuts ever did. You might've just saved me a bunch of future callusing headaches.
