Finding an Iron Age trash heap was a messy blast from the past
Last summer, my dig team found an old trash heap from the Iron Age. It had broken tools and food scraps everywhere. I laughed because it looked just like my compost pile at home. This find showed me our trash problems aren't new.

Honestly that makes me feel a bit better about my own pile of broken stuff in the garage. I guess humans have always been kinda messy. My junk is just old bike parts and takeout containers instead of broken tools. It's weirdly comforting to know we've been leaving a trail of garbage for thousands of years.

My buddy was clearing out his grandpa's old shed last fall and found a corner full of broken hand tools and tin cans from like the 1950s. He sent me a picture and it was just layers of rust and rot, totally forgotten. It really did look like some weird tiny archeology site right there in his backyard. He said it made him feel better about the stack of old electronics in his own closet. Shows you how every generation just piles up its own version of junk, and then leaves it for someone else to scratch their head at later. We really are all the same.

Ever find anything cool in those forgotten piles? I mean idk, I once found an old film camera in my aunt's basement junk and it kinda made me see my own clutter as future treasure too. Weird how that works.
