I finally got to examine clay tablets from an old dig site

I'm working on documenting them for our records. The cracks are making it tough to see all the marks. Any tips for handling fragile artifacts like these?

Had the same issue with some pottery pieces. Using a soft brush and light from the side helped me see the marks better without damage. Give that a try before you do anything harder.

But if the marks are totally worn away, how do you even identify the piece? Does that knock down its value or just make it a cool mystery?

The soft brush and light from the side seems like a lot of work, @hugo_flores85. Do marks on pottery really matter that much? It's not like they're going to change anything.
