My cheap fix for a leaky faucet turned into a financial nightmare

I was sure I could handle a small leak in my bathroom faucet. Spent fifty bucks on parts and a wrench set, felt pretty smart. But I messed up the installation BAD and water sprayed all over. Had to emergency call a plumber who charged two hundred to fix my mess. My whole grocery budget for the week went down the drain. Now I KNOW that DIY isn't always the answer for saving money. Sometimes you just gotta pay for skill and avoid bigger costs.

Question about moving from wiping stains to gel stains

I always thought wiping stains were best for a smooth finish. After dealing with streaks on a pine dresser, I tested a gel stain. The way it sits on the wood gave me much cleaner results. Now I'm leaning towards gels, but I want to know if others have issues with them being too thick for some projects.
