That "guaranteed ancient" line is a classic, right up there with "mild" salsa. reese_singh87 has it right, you're basically paying for the guy's storytelling skills. For forty bucks you could've gotten a whole bag of cool, un-guaranteed rocks from the actual desert floor.

Guaranteed ancient, maybe from last Tuesday! Those roadside stands are a special kind of magic. You gotta admire the confidence it takes to sell that story. At least you got a cool rock for forty bucks, right? Better luck next time, maybe check out a museum gift shop instead.
