My trowel snapped right in the middle of a dig at the Cahokia Mounds site

I was carefully working on a unit near Monks Mound last Tuesday when my Marshalltown trowel just broke in half. The handle split clean through while I was trying to clear some compacted soil. I had to borrow a spare from the field director and felt like a total rookie. Has anyone else had a tool fail at the worst possible moment?

My old Stanley tape measure did the same thing last month. It feels like everything's built to break right when you need it most.

Tools always break at the worst time. A snapped trowel during careful work is just bad luck. Don't feel bad about borrowing a spare.

I keep a cheap backup trowel in my bag for exactly that reason.
