Tried that flotation method for soil samples from a dig in Connecticut and ended up with mud all over my kitchen floor
Spent 3 hours sifting through the mess but only found a single tiny pottery shard, so has anyone else had way better luck with dry sieving instead?

My aunt did a dry sieve for her Connecticut site back in 2018 and pulled out two arrowheads and a clay pipe stem in one afternoon. The key is to have a good screen with tight mesh, not the hardware cloth stuff from the big box store.

Hardware cloth is fine if you don't mind sifting out all the tiny rocks yourself.

Spent an hour cleaning mud off my cabinets after trying the same thing, @dylanward would've laughed at the mess.
